Lusaka is the capital of Zambia. In the center, sprawling Lusaka City Market sells clothing, produce and other goods. The National Museum exhibits archaeological finds and contemporary art. Nearby, the Freedom Statue commemorates Zambia’s struggle for independence. South of the city, Munda Wanga Environmental Park has a wildlife sanctuary and botanical garden.
Livingstone is a town in southwestern Zambia, a few kilometers from the Zambezi River and the border with Zimbabwe. It’s a hub for visitors to the Victoria Falls. The adjoining Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park surrounds the Zambian side of the falls. The Livingstone Museum traces local history and archaeology, and the life of the Scottish explorer, David Livingstone, after whom the town was named.

Your role in class as a participant on our Zambia Teaching volunteer project depends on the school as well as your own comfort level. You’ll be paired with a Zambian teacher and have the option of going into class with this person and simply helping out with daily lessons. However, for anyone with the confidence and the drive to do their own lesson planning, nothing’s quite as rewarding as leading your own class.
The time you’ll spend in class depends on the school’s needs as well as the time of year. Generally, you’ll be in front of students anywhere from 10 to 20 hours per week. Volunteers with plenty of ambition can donate more time planning and possibly helping out with projects at school.
You will also have a cultural exchange, cross-cultural exposure, cultural immersion, make new friends, learn the local language, cooking the local food, learn about the rich Zambian culture and experience her unique hospitality. Education is a priority, it is one of the most important tools Go Volunteer Africa can give the children in order to break the cycle of poverty affecting their lives and to help them become independent adults
Your help and assistance will be greatly appreciated in these local schools and will be a refreshing change to existing curriculum. The minimum required time for teaching volunteer project in Zambia is four weeks and volunteers must participate in this Zambia teaching volunteer program with an open mind, giving heart, and flexibility to work with different age ranges of children.
In the first week local teacher will assist you to conduct class and solve any language barrier if it appears during teaching. When the children become familiar with you, you will then be able to run class independently. All private and public school have curriculum, you can either follow Zambia curriculum or you can apply your own skill.
You do not have to be a professional teacher, though these are highly prized; you simply need an open heart and a desire to improve the individual understanding of children and adults of academics and the world in general.
