Go Volunteer Africa’s Guinea Bissau Agriculture and Environmental Conservation Volunteer Project gives international volunteers the opportunity to support community-based agriculture, sustainable development and environmental activities in São Domingos, Cacheu Region.
Volunteers work alongside local community members and project teams on practical activities that may contribute to food production, environmental awareness, sustainable farming and the protection of local natural resources.
This project is suitable for volunteers interested in agriculture, environmental conservation, sustainability, food security and community development who want to gain practical experience while contributing to locally based initiatives.
AGRICULTURE VOLUNTEERING IN GUINEA-BISSAU
Agriculture is an important part of community life in Guinea-Bissau, particularly in rural and semi-rural areas. Agriculture volunteering gives participants an opportunity to work alongside local communities on practical activities related to food production, farming and sustainable agricultural practices.
Depending on the season and current project needs, volunteers may assist with planting, cultivation, harvesting, garden maintenance, agricultural education and other community farming activities. The activities available can vary throughout the year according to weather conditions, agricultural cycles and local priorities.
ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEERING IN GUINEA-BISSAU
The environmental component of the project focuses on practical community activities that encourage environmental awareness and responsible use of natural resources. Volunteers may participate in activities such as community clean-ups, tree planting, environmental education, waste-awareness activities and other locally organized conservation initiatives.
The project provides an opportunity to learn about the relationship between communities, agriculture and the surrounding environment while contributing practical support to local activities.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AS A VOLUNTEER?
Your role will depend on the activities taking place during your placement. You may spend part of your time working directly with community members on agricultural activities and other days supporting environmental or educational initiatives.
Typical activities can involve practical outdoor work, helping maintain community gardens, assisting with planting or harvesting, supporting environmental awareness activities or participating in community improvement projects.
Volunteers should be prepared for hands-on work and outdoor conditions. The project is community based, so flexibility is important. Activities may change according to weather, agricultural seasons and local project needs.
SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
The project connects agriculture with broader community development. Volunteers can support activities that encourage sustainable approaches to food production and community resource management while learning from local farmers and community members.
Rather than introducing outside solutions without consultation, volunteers work under the guidance of local project teams and contribute to activities that are already relevant to the community. This creates an opportunity to learn about local agricultural practices while supporting practical community initiatives.
PROJECT LOCATION
The Guinea Bissau Agriculture & Environmental Conservation Volunteer Project is based in São Domingos, in the Cacheu Region of northern Guinea-Bissau, close to the border with Senegal. The area provides a community-based setting where volunteers can experience local life while participating in agricultural and environmental activities.
