UGANDA: Women Volunteer Project

Uganda Women Volunteer Project

This Uganda women volunteer project has a number of initiatives that aim to transform the livelihoods of these poor women through education, economic empowerment and entrepreneurship. You will be working with and helping women aged between 18 and 35 to become economically self-sufficient, providing them with the space and support to develop their business ideas.

You will be working with our women empowerment program that looks at improving the quality of life for women in Uganda by providing economic stability. You can lead workshops in business skills, IT, administration, financial literacy, people management and customer care. You will be involved in a variety of interesting activities to help the women and girls in the community.

Women Volunteering Project Uganda

PROJECT LOCATION

This project will take you to the heart of Uganda where you get involved in meaningful volunteer work. The trip starts and ends in Uganda’s capital Kampala. Volunteers joining the program will be based in Mukono. Mukono is one of the most relaxed and attractive suburbs, east of Kampala (the capital city of Uganda). Mukono is a great place to stay if you want to explore Uganda’s fascinating capital city or the adventure capital- Jinja.

ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP

After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at Entebbe International Airport (the only international airport in Uganda). Our Coordinator will arrange a pickup for you from the airport in Entebbe at agreed time and they will drive you to the volunteer home outskirts of Kampala.

ORIENTATION

Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Uganda you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing.

PROJECT DETAILS

You may be asked to run specialty focused sessions during your time at the Uganda women volunteer project site. You will find the experience extremely rewarding as you build trust and spend time sharing your own experiences with the women and girls, and listening to their own stories.

Women Volunteer Program South Africa

You might like to develop business plans and small grant proposals and help to design and successfully market handmade products. Whatever your background you can be sure that the guidance, knowledge and enthusiasm you bring to this project will benefit the women for years to come.

You don’t need specific experience working with women’s groups but a willingness to help where needed, a genuine interest in supporting women in need and being sensitive are some of the attributes you should have.

You will be combining this Uganda women volunteer project with other activities, like visiting local schools, public speaking with youth and children and mentorship sessions in the local communities.

GROUP VOLUNTEER TRIPS

Get some friends together or organize a group from your school and embark on this incredible adventure! Discounts are offered on any group of 5+ participants on Uganda volunteering program.

LONGTERM VOLUNTEER WORK

Please contact us for more information about our long-term volunteer work in Uganda. We will guide you on the best times of the year, what to pack, and what extra health precautions to keep in mind and all logistics.

VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATION

Volunteers are provided accommodation in our beautiful volunteer house or in a homestay accommodation managed by the local coordinating team. Three meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) are provided to the participants from Monday – Sunday. The accommodations are neat and clean. Accommodation is shared amongst volunteers on the ‘same gender sharing’ basis rooms. Wifi internet, warm water is not guaranteed.

The accommodations are close to useful amenities like banks, ATM’s, currency exchanges, restaurants, cafes and shopping places. All placements are around 5 – 30 minutes from the accommodation. At some point volunteers might be on the move and hence we suggest also bringing a sleeping mat and sleeping bag/pillow for travel and weekends away on adventures. Bathrooms are usually shared. There is a lounge area for relaxing, reading, or watching movies.

AGE REQUIREMENT

Our program is for anyone eighteen years and above who loves service above self and social experiences with people from all over the world. We also accepts volunteers of 16+ years of age if they are in a group with a guardian or supervisor above 25years. Volunteers under 16 years old are only considered when accompanied by a parent/guardian. There isn’t a maximum age limit, though a reasonable fitness level is necessary. Families are encouraged to apply and are welcome!

VISAS

Visitors to Uganda must obtain a visa on arrival to Uganda or from one of the Ugandan diplomatic missions, unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months. Uganda began issuing electronic visas (e-Visa) on 1 July 2016. Passengers who have been issued an e-visa must travel with a printed e-visa confirmation. Visa on arrival: Electronic visas replaced the visa on arrival facility. Apply for Uganda Tourist Visa Here.
