PROGRAM DURATION

We want every volunteer to feel that their time in Africa was put to good use and that they had adequate time to make an impact. The preferred length of trip for a volunteer’s first visit is 4 weeks. Although we do not strictly prohibit shorter stays, we do request that our volunteers are able to offer at least two weeks of voluntary services.

Occasionally we will allow for a shorter stay than one month, but this is handled on a case by case basis. We understand that it can sometimes be difficult for doctors, to take a full month off. Therefore, doctors can come for a three-week period.

We need people who possess the willingness to commit themselves to a long-term project, prepared for day-to-day challenges. Also important: our lifestyle is simple; we don’t have any luxuries here, beside the luxury of being in the middle of a beautiful natural landscape, and working for a meaningful cause.

We need people to help teach at the rural schools, to help with construction and cleaning works, to help at our agriculture farm, social workers, psychologists, educators, specialists in IT, doctors, nurses, drivers, etc. In summary: anyone with goodwill and a good disposition to help and work can be accepted into the program.

VOLUNTEER ABROAD IN AFRICA FOR FREE

If you would like volunteer abroad in Africa for free, our projects need volunteers who can bring new ideas, work with minimal supervision, and have a positive, self-starting attitude.

Eswatini Childcare Volunteer Project

We do not need just young volunteers, but older people with business skills and experience. We need those who can sort out book-work and apply for grants. Just as these projects try to help all members of society, they need all ages of volunteers to help them function.

Go Volunteer Africa projects help create sustainable education & development in Africa. The program provides a life-changing opportunity for school and university leavers to spend a few weeks volunteering in Africa.

Liberia Community Volunteer Program

Volunteers directly help in schools, health centers and development projects. Perhaps equally important is the “knowledge exchange”: helping people from a remote African community gain a greater understanding of the wider world (and vice versa).

Of course, it is not all hard work; volunteers will get an opportunity for fantastic wildlife safaris and to experience a region few tourists have reached.

EXPENSES ARE INVOLVED

Your volunteering trip to Africa may include any or all of the following costs

Costs Covered by you or through donations:

Flights (or other means of transportation). This is one of the biggest costs associated with international volunteering. Flights and international travel are rarely cheap, so if you don’t have donors to cover the cost, prepare to pay for them.

Pocket money. We don’t provide pocket money or a living stipend. So, you will need to raise enough monies to cover up for your entire duration.

Insurance. You will have to pay for your basic health insurance while volunteering with us.

Visa. Remember that you will always have to apply for a visa if you need it. Go Volunteer Africa provides you with documents to support your application, if need be. In rare occasions, we pay for the visa extension. This applies only to highly-skilled volunteers staying long-term.

Vaccines. If you are required to get vaccinations before coming to any Uganda, you will have to take those costs into account.

Uganda community volunteer work

Costs Covered by Go Volunteer Africa:

Accommodations. Paying for a place to stay can drain your budget, but Go Volunteer Africa will offer you a free room in exchange for your labor and skills. Most often that will be shared accommodation with other volunteers.

Meals. We do provide three free delicious local meals a day for your entire duration.

Local transportation. Costs related to your transportation from your accommodation to your volunteer post may be covered, but that’s not always the case.

WHY WE ASK FOR THE COMMITMENT DONATION?

The volunteering is free through Go Volunteer Africa between April – May for Uganda, you only pay just USD$220 to book and confirm your placement. You are required to pay this placement confirmation fee within 7 days of receiving the placement offer letter regardless of the start dates.

If payment is not received within this timeframe this will result in an automatic cancellation and the placement will be offered to someone else.

Since we started, the number of volunteers applying has increased by each year. Unfortunately, only a third of those who promise that they will come, have in fact arrived.

The wastage in volunteer coordinators’ time and the fact that volunteers who could have come were refused due to holding the space for someone else who didn’t turn up, forced us to implement this. We hope that by implementing the commitment fee, only serious volunteers will thus secure the chance to volunteer in our projects.

Our Refund Policy is as follows:

The volunteer placement commitment fee and all kinds of donations are non-refundable. As it is very difficult for us to fill volunteer places at short notice if someone cancels prior to starting their placement or leaves the program early.

Please remember that nearly all of the money you pay or raise for your project goes directly towards running that particular charitable project you choose to help.

Cultures:

It is also important for potential volunteers to understand that the cultures in Africa are quite different from what you are accustomed to. Volunteers should bring with them an easy-going, open-minded and relaxed attitude.

Locals are curious, very friendly and social people. While the Go Volunteer Africa will endeavor to maintain a daily routine, volunteers should understand that things move slowly in Africa (and indeed in rural and semi developed communities). Relax and enjoy the slow pace.

Volunteer in Africa for Free

Remember that life in Africa is not as organized and predictable as life in developed countries. Although volunteer work can be very busy and active, at other times work is determined by many factors including weather, availability of resources, whether a relevant contact has turned up, cultural activities etc.

What else is offered?

Our unique program includes the support you will need to have an enjoyable, useful and safe experience:

  • One day of induction with basic training
  • 2 weeks to 4 weeks of volunteer placement
  • Ongoing mentoring and full time support
  • Basic local language lessons
  • Full time field support and local staff living on site
  • Your accommodation is arranged at a host family volunteer house

What’s not offered?

You need to budget for your travel to Africa, health arrangements and personal spending money.

  • Airport transfers pickup $85 (one way)
  • Flights to and From International Airport
  • Insurance (compulsory)
  • Malaria Preventatives (where necessary)
  • Vaccinations
  • You will need $50 -$200 (for personal expenses) each week.

Volunteer in Africa for Free

Go Volunteer Africa volunteers/interns are typically enthusiastic, hard-working, self-motivated and proactive people who are able to work under their own initiative and as part of a team.

They do not replace or take jobs away from local people – they assist them with the various projects running in their communities. Our volunteers are also realists – they know they won’t change Africa, but they hope they will make a difference to the lives of some of the local people.
