Go Volunteer Africa’s Uganda childcare volunteer project offer needy kids the love and parental care in our children homes. Come and volunteer, spend time with the children. Show them that love and give them support. Show them the bright light at the end of the tunnel. Give them hope for a better tomorrow.
These children need love, care, attention, observation and monitoring, and emotional support. The organization might have taken in the children, but they also require assistance from volunteers. As a volunteer working on our Uganda childcare volunteer project you will work alongside local teams that provide at-risk children and abandoned babies a safe environment in which they are nurtured and they participate in a number of extra-curricular activities.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Prepare food for dinner
- Lead sports, art, games, picture books, music activities
- Help with breakfast and prepare the children for school
- Organize fun activities when the children return from school
- Assist with lessons and teach English 3-4 hours a day in the local school
This Uganda childcare volunteer project is designed to provide kids from 3 to 10 years old with creative outlets and opportunities to make constructive use of their time and also to provide nurturing environment for 0-2yr olds. Volunteers help children to practice reading, writing, arithmetic, and English while making time for various games and recreational activities.
PROJECT LOCATION
This project will take you to the heart of Uganda where you get involved in meaningful volunteer work. The trip starts and ends in Uganda’s capital Kampala. Volunteers joining the program will be based in Mukono. Mukono is one of the most relaxed and attractive suburbs, east of Kampala (the capital city of Uganda). Mukono is a great place to stay if you want to explore Uganda’s fascinating capital city or the adventure capital- Jinja.
ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP
After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at Entebbe International Airport (the only international airport in Uganda). Our Coordinator will arrange a pickup for you from the airport in Entebbe at agreed time and they will drive you to the volunteer home outskirts of Kampala.
ORIENTATION
Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Uganda you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing.
PROJECT DETAILS
The way a child is brought up determines the future of the child. Children are abandoned by their mothers immediately after leaving the labor ward. Do they even know how long it will take before someone gets to find that baby and look after her/him?
The babies are thrown in pit latrines and some of these babies remain alive until they are pulled out of there. For so many years, Uganda has battled with this, and yet even today, children are abandoned on streets, hospital wards, outside private resident’s gates, and even in the bush.
Most of the children you will meet at the Uganda childcare volunteer project are traumatized by the incidences that occurred and it takes them time to adjust and feel comfortable among new people. This mostly happens to children in the age bracket of 3-7. As for the infants of 2 years and below, these do not recall what happened to them and so they live and grow up knowing that this is their home and family.
The volunteers joining the Uganda childcare volunteer project can also help coordinate important educational workshops to caretakers in areas lacking emphasis in general such as recycling, nutrition, hygiene, and self-esteem. This is a fun project for anyone who loves working with children. The kids are very enthusiastic and always keen to learn, play, and interact with volunteers.
Go Volunteer Africa’s childcare project volunteers’ work for five days that is from Monday to Friday. Weekends are always your days off. You will be required to work for 6 hours each day. Breakfast is served at 7:30am till 8:30am. However since you will be working with babies, daily activities can start as early as 6:00am.
This is because by this time, the babies are awake and you might be needed to help in feeding them, bathing them or even changing them. Daily activities that you choose to be involved in on particular days, will determine how long you will be working. So you might exceed 6 hours of working. But, since you will be with the coordinator all the time, you can agree on how long you wish to work on a particular activity per day.
