Do you have a passion for agriculture and often dream of working overseas on a small organic farm? If you have, then experience Tanzania in a whole new way as you explore the culture first hand by working alongside local farmers.
In most communities in Tanzania, owning a back yard garden and small farm is vital for having a cheap source of starch, vegetables and fruits. This practice was handed down by our ancestors to all generations. Most small farmers today still use the old ways of farming, especially with hand tools like the machete.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Connecting with nature

Morogoro is a city located in the eastern part of Tanzania, approximately 196 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam. It serves as the capital of the Morogoro Region. Informally, it is referred to as Mji kasoro bahari, which translates to city short of an ocean/port
Mwanza is a port city on the shore of Lake Victoria, in northern Tanzania. It’s ringed by green hills. The city is known for unusual rock formations like Bismarck Rock, near the Kamanga Ferry Terminal. In the center of town are colonial buildings like the crumbling hilltop Dr. Robert Koch’s House. The 1935 Indian Public Library, mosques and Hindu temples reflect Indian influence. The Makoroboi area is full of shops.
Iringa is a town in central Tanzania. It sits on a cliff overlooking the Ruaha River Valley, in the Southern Highlands region. The town center has German colonial buildings and a popular market. The Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery memorializes soldiers who died in local battles during WWI and WWII. From Gangilonga Rock, which was once an important chieftain meeting spot, views stretch over the town.

PROJECT DETAILS
Participants in our Tanzania agriculture volunteer project need no experience to participate in sustainable farming. What you need is the willingness to take instructions, a spirit of humility, energy and a strong work ethics.
If you love working with the soil and getting your hands dirty, the farmers in the community will welcome your advice and be grateful for your help. Never underestimate the power of a positive outlook and an enthusiastic attitude in building fast friendships and relationships.
Go Volunteer Africa’s agriculture volunteer programs are located in Mwanza, Morogoro, Iringa and Mwanza. In these communities there is a great need for creating awareness about conservation practices.
Students studying agricultural management, agriculture and farming, disease control, organic farming abroad, irrigation and other farming techniques could make a big difference by supporting members of the small farming communities.
