GUINEA-BISSAU: Women Volunteer Project

Join us our Guinea Bissau Women Volunteer Project and work with local staff to help support the women and girls as they strive to find better futures. Volunteers are encouraged to share their existing knowledge and skills with the women on the project.

Volunteers can lead workshops in business skills, IT, administration, financial literacy, people management and customer care. You can offer counseling, information on reproductive health or help with the harvest of cash crops or you can just join the girls in their sports activities.

Volunteer at the Women Empowerment Centre

You will be involved in a variety of interesting activities to help the women and girls in the community. If you have areas of specialty, you may be asked to run focused sessions during your time at the project site. You will find the experience extremely rewarding as you build trust and spend time sharing your own experiences with the women and girls, and listening to their own stories.

PROJECTS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Teach micro-financing and business skills
  • Teach about family planning and healthcare
  • Teach them about computers and how to operate them
  • Teach and enhance their knowledge of the language skills
  • Improve their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills
  • You may enhance their skill and confidence with other fun creative ideas

You don’t need specific experience working with women’s groups but if you have training, teaching, counseling or business skills they will be most useful.  A willingness to help where needed, a genuine interest in supporting women in need and being sensitive are some of the attributes you should have as a women’s empowerment volunteer.

PROJECT DETAILS

Volunteering on Guinea Bissau women empowerment initiatives is a great way to see the world, experience new cultures and contribute to a sustainable project, which will yield long-term results for the individual and the community as a whole.

The Guinea Bissau women volunteer project aims to assist deprived women to improve their self–confidence by helping them improve their literacy and business skills. Living in a male-dominated society, some women in Africa are illiterate and lack the opportunities to develop this (and other) fundamental skills.

Volunteers are required to assist with teaching girls and women both Portuguese and English languages and business skills, micro credit in addition to promoting physical fitness through games. The minimum required commitment time for the any of our women empowerment volunteer program is two weeks. Volunteers do not need specific skills and/or past experience to participate in this program.

Go Volunteer Africa’s Guinea women empowerment volunteer projects supports several women in business management, languages, literacy, childcare and micro financing. Assisting with self-sustaining activities such as gardening, farming, jewelry making and running a local savings and loan program. Volunteers will be involved in the whole component of the program.

It is important to remember that on this program, volunteers will be working with vulnerable women in the community. You will be working closely with our local staff and community leaders to improve situations for many underprivileged women.
