Go Volunteer Africa’s Eswatini Farm work volunteer project will give participants an opportunity to get involved in the daily life of your Eswatini locals, help on the farm, learn about sustainability, experience a new culture and meet new people. The volunteers joining our Eswatini farm work volunteer project will have tasks such as feeding the animals, cleaning the stables, working in the garden together with other volunteers and visitors.
Depending on the interests of the volunteer, we can think of working out a specific project such as developing an educational program for visiting schools, building a nice game element on the meadow, creating new activities, making a little promotional film on agriculture development in Eswatini. We appreciate it when the volunteer integrates his or her own creativity, skills and ideas in the Eswatini farm work volunteer project!
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Plan and run development farm activities
- Learn directly from the professional farmers
- Get a deeper understanding of the Eswatini culture
- Be a part of the agriculture development in Eswatini
- Get to know more about Farming in Developing world
- Ideal for those wishing to pursue a career in Agri-business
- Gain vital experience and new skills for your CV or university application
- Comprehensive pre-departure support and assistance with all aspects of your trip
We will teach the volunteer some specific skills needed on the farm. He/she has to learn to heat up the wooden oven and bake bread and pizzas, learns to make butter and ice cream out of the milk. We always have a nice mix of volunteers with less and more experience, with less and more abilities.
PROJECT LOCATION
Piggs Peak: is a town in northwestern Eswatini. It was founded around gold prospecting in 1884, but its main industry is now forestry. Piggs Peak is located approximately 70 kilometers north-east of the capital city of Mbabane. The town is also located 40 kilometers from Matsamo boarder (the gateway to Mpumalanga Province in South Africa).
Piggs Peak is named after an early resident, William Pigg, who discovered a gold reef here on 26 March 1884. The town’s name is often Africanized in local parlance to ‘Spiggy-Speegy’, or even just ‘Spiggy’.
The town is also known for its large hotel and casino, splendidly situated on the crest of a ridge 10km north of town and is just a few kilometers away from the old mining town of Bulembu, the ancient rock pantings of Nsangwini, and Phophonyane Nature Reserve.
The Peak Fine Craft Centre, just to north of the hotel, is indisputably Eswatini’s most scenic handicrafts outlet. It centres upon the workshop and boutique of Coral Stephens Hand Weaving, an impressive family enterprise, whose mohair curtains, carpets and other products are exported worldwide. Other craft outlets include sisal-weaving (Tintsaba), jewellery, ceramics and stone-carving. The craft centre has a restaurant offering spectacular views over the surrounding area.
ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP
After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at King Mswati III International Airport in Manzini city. A member of staff from our local partner organization will meet you on arrival at Airport. This airport services numerous international carriers. Eswatini has good connections to destinations throughout Europe, the Asia- Pacific region, USA and Africa.
ORIENTATION
Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer trip orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Eswatini you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing and the adventures.
PROJECT DETAILS
Our volunteers are the heart and soul of the farm and their energy and passion are crucial to everything we do. We have many volunteer roles and whether you are interested in gaining experience looking after animals, cooking, gardening, or just want to get involved in any way you can, there is a role at the Eswatini farm work volunteer project for you! We also provide up to 2-week work experience placements during term time, in conjunction with your School, College or University.
Go Volunteer Africa’s placements work in various areas of the farm, including livestock, horticulture, catering and cooking, arts and crafts, photography and creative arts. Volunteers are required to work directly with trainees to assist in promoting skills development, lift their spirits and encourage independence by ensuring the process is enriching.
Working as a farm work volunteer in Eswatini is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences you will ever have. Your tasks will vary depending on your season of arrival, but generally involve providing support to farm workers and assisting with day-to-day operations.

Bathrooms are usually shared and you have access to a kitchen to prepare your meals. There is a lounge area for relaxing, reading, or watching movies.
