PROJECT LOCATION
This project will take you to the heart of Uganda where you get involved in meaningful volunteer work. The trip starts and ends in Uganda’s capital Kampala. Volunteers joining the program will be based in Mukono. Mukono is one of the most relaxed and attractive suburbs, east of Kampala (the capital city of Uganda). Mukono is a great place to stay if you want to explore Uganda’s fascinating capital city or the adventure capital- Jinja.
ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP
After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at Entebbe International Airport (the only international airport in Uganda). Our Coordinator will arrange a pickup for you from the airport in Entebbe at agreed time and they will drive you to the volunteer home outskirts of Kampala.
ORIENTATION
Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Uganda you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing.
PROJECT DETAILS
The Uganda Girls Empowerment volunteer project also uses soccer-based activities to teach life skills, reproductive health, and financial literacy. Volunteers joining the Uganda girls’ empowerment volunteer could get involved in education, healthcare, life skills training, and economic empowerment initiatives.
Volunteers can contribute by mentoring, tutoring, assisting with vocational training, and helping to create safe spaces for girls. Raise awareness about the importance of girls’ empowerment and advocate for their rights.
Work with community members to create supportive environments for girls. We are always on the look for people who are excited about offering their time, skills and resources to serve the yet vulnerable families in rural communities.
As a volunteer, you will play a pivotal role in creating safe and supportive environments for girls to grow emotionally, socially and academically. Go Volunteer Africa’s girl child volunteer opportunities enable you to reduce social inequalities by helping young women in Uganda gain vocational skills, education and financial independence.
By joining this program, focused on empowering girls in Uganda, you’ll be part of a movement working hard on closing the gender gap. Our program focuses on providing girls with practical skills, mentorship, and access to resources.

VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers are provided accommodation in our beautiful volunteer house or in a homestay accommodation managed by the local coordinating team. Three meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) are provided to the participants from Monday – Sunday. The accommodations are neat and clean. Accommodation is shared amongst volunteers on the ‘same gender sharing’ basis rooms. Wifi internet, warm water is not guaranteed.
The accommodations are close to useful amenities like banks, ATM’s, currency exchanges, restaurants, cafes and shopping places. All placements are around 5 – 30 minutes from the accommodation. At some point volunteers might be on the move and hence we suggest also bringing a sleeping mat and sleeping bag/pillow for travel and weekends away on adventures. Bathrooms are usually shared. There is a lounge area for relaxing, reading, or watching movies.
AGE REQUIREMENT
Our program is for anyone eighteen years and above who loves service above self and social experiences with people from all over the world. We also accepts volunteers of 16+ years of age if they are in a group with a guardian or supervisor above 25years. Volunteers under 16 years old are only considered when accompanied by a parent/guardian. There isn’t a maximum age limit, though a reasonable fitness level is necessary. Families are encouraged to apply and are welcome!
VISAS
Visitors to Uganda must obtain a visa on arrival to Uganda or from one of the Ugandan diplomatic missions, unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months. Uganda began issuing electronic visas (e-Visa) on 1 July 2016. Passengers who have been issued an e-visa must travel with a printed e-visa confirmation. Visa on arrival: Electronic visas replaced the visa on arrival facility. Apply for Uganda Tourist Visa Here.
WEEKENDS AND FREE-TIME
Over the weekends or evenings, participants are free to eat out and explore the different delights that Uganda has to offer. We arrange city day tours and long-weekend safaris. No matter what your interests, there is always something for everyone to enjoy!
