UGANDA MEDICAL MISSION DETAILS
Healthcare is neither easily accessible nor affordable for many Ugandans living in the rural villages. Go Volunteer Africa strives to improve the health conditions of children and adults in rural communities through various programs the Uganda Medical Mission.
By running mobile dental and medical clinics alongside health education workshops, we help to improve healthcare conditions in hard to reach areas. People in villages face health concerns that diminish their ability to improve their lives whereas the quality of health influences the quality of life for any individual and subsequently impact development for a community.
HIV/AIDS, Malaria, childhood illnesses such as measles, tetanus, parasitic diseases and malnutrition devastate communities. HIV/AIDS in particular has caused immeasurable damage. Large numbers of HIV-related illnesses and deaths from AIDS have had a particular impact on education and agriculture, overburdening community resources.
In order to confront these health issues Go Volunteer Africa organizes the Uganda medical mission with support from international volunteers who runs mobile health camps, constructs community clinics and organizes village health talks which offer free/affordable medical treatment to the very needy communities.
VOLUNTEER ROLES/ACTIVITIES
In a country where common diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, respiratory tract infections and diarrheal diseases are infecting and affecting a large number of people, volunteers who choose to work with our Uganda medical camps are much needed and appreciated.
As a volunteer participating on our Uganda medical mission, you will get the chance to get involved in dental and medical clinics alongside health education workshops, to improve healthcare conditions in hard to reach areas.
Our Uganda medical mission program has an innovative and a grassroots approach to addressing rural healthcare and public health in rural communities of Uganda. The program goal is to improve the provision of healthcare and of preventative health education to underserved populations across Uganda.
During the medical volunteer camps, we carry out free treatment to needy locals. Treatment ranges from providing pain relief and cough medicines, de-wormers, with medication such as antibiotics, anti-malarial and mosquito nets, antacids, anti-infections for more complicated conditions. Childhood diseases, minor surgeries, malaria and other tropical maladies.
Village Health Talks Outreaches (VHTO)
Village Health Talks is an innovative and grassroots approach to addressing rural healthcare and public health in rural communities of Uganda. Its goal is to improve the provision of healthcare and of preventative health education to underserved populations across Uganda.
Our nurse, health counselors, social workers and international volunteers conduct rotate in villages teaching basic health tips. These village workshops usually focus on personal and household hygiene and sanitation- washing hands, cleaning house and compound to remove stagnant water that usually becomes breeding ground for mosquitoes that transmit malaria, boiling water for drinking, washing hands after using latrines, food preservation, etc.
Mobile Clinics Camps (MCC)
Vaccination– addresses one of the most troubling health issues in Uganda, the death of children from preventable diseases. Vaccinations not only save young lives, they give the nurses the chance to provide health education to mothers and careers.
Heath Education plays a critical role in the work of the Mobile Health Camp, following our philosophy of providing sustainable training to communities. The Camp’s health workers train villagers who often pass on the knowledge to their communities through health education workshops. In order to give extra support to the most vulnerable children, a Health Educator visits their homes, making specific recommendations for healthy living.
Go Volunteer Africa’s mobile clinic camp is a program of providing medical service to many people in rural areas of Uganda. Many people cannot access medical services due to remoteness of some village and many cannot afford to pay for treatment. Many people die of malaria caused by mosquitoes. Children die of worms and Diarrhea and malaria as well. With professional nurses, medical personnel and counselors, Go Volunteer Africa organizes trips to these villages to provide medical services.
This project saves many people’s lives especially the poor ones in rural communities of Uganda and the islands. Much as a lot has been done; there is still a need to increase on medical supplies due to high rates of sick needy people.
Our volunteer medical teams perform free minor surgeries, train local medical teams and donate life-saving medical supplies to local health centers. If you think you have what it takes to volunteer for one of our medical camps, apply to volunteer now and our medical team coordinator will be in touch with you shortly.
