Day 1: Arrival in Bujumbura and Transfer to the Hotel

You will be met at Bujumbura International Airport by a driver guide and taken directly to your accommodation. Your seven-day trip to Burundi officially begins today. After that, take a tour of Bujumbura and see the Independence hero mausoleum & Unity monument, Belvedere Hill offering a nice view of Lake Tanganyika, the Explorers Memorial, and a huge rock in the Suburbs of Bujumbura commemorating the meeting between explorers Livingstone & Stanley, Albert’s crocodiles, and the Islam Culture Centre.

Day 2: Kiganda Royal Grounds – Historical Tour

After breakfast, go to Kibira National Park, where you’ll explore the Teza tea fields. After that, you should check out the Kiganda royal gardens, one of the historical sanctuaries that contains information on the Treaty signed by the Germans and King MweziGisabo, the traditional ruler during that colonial era.

Proceed to the royal inauguration grounds, where historical political rulers such as Mutaga Mbikije and Mwezi Gisabo had their clubs. This place offers a rare opportunity to stroll over the magnificent, well-maintained royal grounds of ancient Burundi. Travel to Gitega in the afternoon and stay overnight.

Day 3: Gishora Drum Sanctuary – Gitega National Museum

After breakfast, you’ll travel to the Gishora drum sanctuary, the Burundi National Museum, the Catholic Village of Mushasha, colonial-era administrative buildings, the BUDECA Coffee Factory, and the Catholic Village.

Day 4: Karera Waterfalls

After breakfast, you’ll be driven to Rutana so you can see the breath-taking Karera waterfalls. From there, you’ll continue on to Makamba to see the “Agasimbo dancers,” who perform a dance native to the country’s southern regions, before arriving in Nyanza-Lac for the night.

Day 5: Muhweza Hot Springs – Rumonge Natural Reserve

Travel to the Rumonge Natural reserve for monkey trekking and bird watching, then on to the Muhweza hot springs and the palm oil industry after a morning spent exploring the Nyanza-Lac fishing hamlet and Burton-Speke memorial.

Day 6: Source of the River Nile

In the morning, you should travel to Rutovu to see the place where the Nile, Africa’s longest and the world’s second-longest river, begins: a not-so-small woodland with a river stream confirmed by multiple studies, including the BBC. Stopping in at a local family’s home on the way back to Bujumbura can let you get a feel for local living.

Day 7: Airport Departure

Transfer to the airport in time for your flight.
