Eswatini Elderly care volunteer project offers participants an opportunity to volunteer with elderly people, offering social care, support, healthcare and physiotherapy in communities across Eswatini.
Volunteers support the provision of basic services at an elderly home in Eswatini. The facility lacks resources to give seniors the care they deserve and many residents don’t have personal resources or family to care for them.
As volunteer joining our Eswatini elderly care volunteer project, you can make a big difference in the lives of these elderly seniors. Help with meals, home maintenance, gardening, transportation to medical clinics, and more.
Our Eswatini elderly care volunteer projects give you the opportunity to brighten the lives of local aging persons by providing much needed companionship and social care. This Eswatini volunteer program will offer volunteers an authentic cultural experience and get to learn from the wisdom and events experienced by elderly people in this small beautiful kingdom. You’ll learn a lot about life, too!

PROJECT LOCATION
Piggs Peak: is a town in northwestern Eswatini. It was founded around gold prospecting in 1884, but its main industry is now forestry. Piggs Peak is located approximately 70 kilometers north-east of the capital city of Mbabane. The town is also located 40 kilometers from Matsamo boarder (the gateway to Mpumalanga Province in South Africa).
Piggs Peak is named after an early resident, William Pigg, who discovered a gold reef here on 26 March 1884. The town’s name is often Africanized in local parlance to ‘Spiggy-Speegy’, or even just ‘Spiggy’.
The town is also known for its large hotel and casino, splendidly situated on the crest of a ridge 10km north of town and is just a few kilometers away from the old mining town of Bulembu, the ancient rock pantings of Nsangwini, and Phophonyane Nature Reserve.
The Peak Fine Craft Centre, just to north of the hotel, is indisputably Eswatini’s most scenic handicrafts outlet. It centres upon the workshop and boutique of Coral Stephens Hand Weaving, an impressive family enterprise, whose mohair curtains, carpets and other products are exported worldwide. Other craft outlets include sisal-weaving (Tintsaba), jewellery, ceramics and stone-carving. The craft centre has a restaurant offering spectacular views over the surrounding area.
ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP
After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at King Mswati III International Airport in Manzini city. A member of staff from our local partner organization will meet you on arrival at Airport. This airport services numerous international carriers. Eswatini has good connections to destinations throughout Europe, the Asia- Pacific region, USA and Africa.
ORIENTATION
Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer trip orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Eswatini you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing and the adventures.
PROJECT DETAILS
Considering the overall economic situation of this country, senior citizens are usually seen as a liability and a cost, even when the local culture expects the young to take care of the old. Your volunteer duties will range from providing simple companionship to being more involved in healthcare or medical relief programs.
You can as well join the Eswatini elderly care volunteer project as physical therapist or assist in daily tasks like reading to them, playing games, listening, cleaning, assisting with cooking or taking walks with them. You will be a great support pillar for the nursing staff.
Volunteering in Eswatini with Go Volunteer Africa’s elderly care volunteer project, you get the opportunity to make seniors feel appreciated again while also improving your communication and social work skills.
Social Work:
Social work activities are ideal for volunteers looking to establish a more personal connection with the local community and can involve anything from simply reading to the elderly to actually working on a daily basis at a nursing home. The top priority of these activities is for you to interact with the elderly people themselves, which has hugely positive impacts on their mental health regardless of their cultural background.
Healthcare:
If you have skills and experience in healthcare, there are plenty of activities in need of your extra hand to apply your skills where are needed most. If you’re studying geriatrics or already have experience in the area, you can help fill human resource gaps in a country’s health care system.
Gain social work, healthcare and physical therapy experience in Africa by joining our Eswatini volunteer program. Volunteers will have to get hands-on to get as many insights and experience as possible out of the work with elderly people in Swaziland.
Our duties are to spend time with the elderly, prepare meals, and offer basic healthcare services, like distributing medicine. You even have the chance to host exercise programs, arts and crafts projects, and dance classes. Your efforts go a long way in making sure the elderly have the quality of life they deserve.
SKILLS REQUIRED
No particular experience required to get involved in our volunteer work in Swaziland. All you need is a desire to make a difference. Volunteers should also be flexible, self-motivated and have a strong willingness to learn and take new initiatives.
