Volunteer in Africa for Free ! Go Volunteer Africa invites international volunteers to join its biggest-ever May volunteer campaign, taking place from 1st to 14th May 2027 across 11 African countries. Applications are now open, with only 10 placements available in each destination.
For years, Go Volunteer Africa has offered special free volunteer opportunities in Uganda every May, welcoming international participants to contribute to community development while experiencing African culture and hospitality.
In May 2027, this popular annual initiative is expanding beyond Uganda to create an even bigger and better experience, opening opportunities across 11 African destinations. The Volunteer in Africa for Free – May 2027 Campaign will run from 1st to 14th May 2027, bringing together volunteers who want to make a positive contribution, learn from local communities, and experience the richness and diversity of Africa.
11 Countries, One Shared Purpose
For the first time, this expanded campaign will include Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cameroon. Participants will have the opportunity to select their preferred destination and volunteer project, subject to availability and placement suitability.
Depending on the destination and available projects, opportunities may include community development, education support, environmental conservation, and other locally identified initiatives. The campaign aims to encourage cultural exchange, international cooperation, and meaningful community engagement while giving volunteers an opportunity to discover Africa beyond conventional tourism.
What Does “Volunteer for Free” Mean?
Go Volunteer Africa is making accommodation and meals fully covered during the stated volunteer program dates for successful participants. Volunteers are required to pay a one-off registration fee of US$250 to participate in the campaign.
Participants remain responsible for their international flights, visa, airport pickup upon arrival, travel insurance, and personal expenses. Other destination-specific travel requirements should also be confirmed before departure.
The campaign offers an opportunity to participate in a structured volunteer experience without paying the usual program accommodation and meal costs. Applicants are encouraged to review the full program conditions and understand the expenses they must cover before applying.
Only 10 Placements Available Per Destination
To maintain manageable group sizes and coordinate placements with local projects, only 10 volunteer placements will be available in each participating country. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply early, as applications will be reviewed according to eligibility, suitability, and destination availability.
The application deadline is 13th November 2026. Submitting an application does not automatically guarantee placement; successful applicants will receive further information about their selected destination, project, and participation arrangements.
