TANZANIA: Sports Volunteer Project

Tanzania Sports Volunteer Project

The Tanzania sports volunteer project! In its effort to launch projects that provide the youth with opportunities for experiential learning, Go Volunteer Africa has initiated several games and sports initiatives to empower youth of Tanzania.

Sport and recreation activities are valued as social connectors and powerful development tools to counter a lack of adequate opportunities for positive social interaction, unequal distribution of resources, a high rate of unemployment, a high rate of crime and other social ills.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Organize games and sports
  • Share your love and care with children
  • Share your culture and empower children
  • Provide support for extracurricular activities
  • Coach swimming, soccer, volley ball, net ball etc.

Youth sport and recreation networks are an important source and means for social networking, helping to combat exclusion and for fostering youth capacity to work collectively towards the realization of opportunities and addressing the challenges faced by young people.

PROJECT LOCATIONS

You can join our Tanzania Sports volunteer project in Arusha, Moshi or Dar-es-Salaam. All project sites offer a very meaningful volunteer experience.

Arusha is a city in north eastern Tanzania and the capital of the Arusha Region, located at the base of volcanic Mt. Meru. It’s a gateway to safari destinations and to Africa’s highest peak, 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro, lying some 100 kilometers northeast. To the west lies Serengeti National Park, home to wildlife including lions, rhinoceros, giraffes and leopards.

Volunteer Activities Tanzania

Moshi is a town in northern Tanzania, near the Kenyan border. It’s known as a gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Trails run up the mountain’s cloud-ringed, snow-capped dome, through alpine forests and meadows home to elephants and leopards. One of Tanzania’s major coffee-producing hubs, Moshi is known for its coffee farms and auctions.

Dar es Salaam is a major city and commercial port on Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast, grew from a fishing village. The open-air Village Museum has re-created the traditional homes of local and other Tanzanian tribes and hosts tribal dancing. It’s part of the National Museum, which offers Tanzanian history exhibits, including the fossils of human ancestors found by anthropologist Louis Leakey.

ORIENTATION

Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Tanzania you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing.

PROJECT DETAILS

The Tanzania sports volunteer project allows you to discover the wonders of Tanzania, while doing meaningful and rewarding social work.  As a games and sports coaching volunteer, you will share your passion and skills for sports at the youth centre, local community and school.

You will lead sports sessions for local children to highlight the importance of having fun and getting fit at the same time! The children and youth love to play football (soccer), badminton, netball or learn new sports such as table tennis or volleyball.

Although priority is for outdoor games, indoor games are also included in the programs. You can also volunteer as a physical education volunteer teacher in Tanzania. This is a great way for you to get practical coaching experience while immersing yourself in the local community.

Ethiopia Sports Volunteer Work

To join our Tanzania sports volunteer project, all you need is a passion for fitness and a commitment to helping children and teenagers develop their physical ability! The Tanzania sports volunteer project has a wide range of benefits including improving the health, fitness and well-being of the children and youth. Sport coaching helps to encourage teamwork and team spirit, improve concentration and increase the confidence of the participants.

Accommodation is shared amongst volunteers on the ‘same gender sharing’ basis rooms. Wifi internet, warm water is not guaranteed.

The homes are close to useful amenities like banks, ATM’s, currency exchanges, restaurants, cafes and shopping places. All placements are around 10 – 30 minutes from the accommodation.
