UGANDA: Conservation Volunteer Project

Uganda Conservation Volunteer Project

Through the Uganda conservation volunteer project, Go Volunteer Africa is giving you an opportunity to protect nature through a hands-on work experience which has a direct impact on the preservation of environments. Go Volunteer Africa is (re)connecting people with our planet and with each other and this is true when you volunteer on our Uganda environment conservation project.

Not only will you gain the invaluable experience of travel, but more often than not you will be immersed in a local culture, meet local people and share their lives and do something meaningful. At the end of your volunteering experience, your greatest reward will be to know that you have made a difference in the lives of others (and they in yours), contributed to their community and helped sustain their development.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Plant trees
  • Join environment education outreaches
  • Sensitize public on responsible waste management practices
  • Live in the heart of Uganda’s most stunning wilderness areas
  • Develop mechanism to recycle and utilize waste in the county

Our Uganda conservation volunteer project focuses on environment conservation, waste management, waste reduction and recycling, resource optimization, environmental education and awareness-raising, and sustainability in agriculture. This Uganda conservation volunteer work program brings people together from around the globe to plant thousands of trees, learn, connect, give back, grow and get active.

PROJECT LOCATION

This project will take you to the heart of Uganda where you get involved in meaningful volunteer work. The trip starts and ends in Uganda’s capital Kampala. Volunteers joining the program will be based in Mukono. Mukono is one of the most relaxed and attractive suburbs, east of Kampala (the capital city of Uganda). Mukono is a great place to stay if you want to explore Uganda’s fascinating capital city or the adventure capital- Jinja.

ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP

After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at Entebbe International Airport (the only international airport in Uganda). Our Coordinator will arrange a pickup for you from the airport in Entebbe at agreed time and they will drive you to the volunteer home outskirts of Kampala.

ORIENTATION

Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Uganda you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing.

VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATION

Volunteers are provided accommodation in our beautiful volunteer house or in a homestay accommodation managed by the local coordinating team. Three meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) are provided to the participants from Monday – Sunday. The accommodations are neat and clean. Accommodation is shared amongst volunteers on the ‘same gender sharing’ basis rooms. Wifi internet, warm water is not guaranteed.

The accommodations are close to useful amenities like banks, ATM’s, currency exchanges, restaurants, cafes and shopping places. All placements are around 5 – 30 minutes from the accommodation. At some point volunteers might be on the move and hence we suggest also bringing a sleeping mat and sleeping bag/pillow for travel and weekends away on adventures. Bathrooms are usually shared. There is a lounge area for relaxing, reading, or watching movies.

AGE REQUIREMENT

Our program is for anyone eighteen years and above who loves service above self and social experiences with people from all over the world. We also accepts volunteers of 16+ years of age if they are in a group with a guardian or supervisor above 25years. Volunteers under 16 years old are only considered when accompanied by a parent/guardian. There isn’t a maximum age limit, though a reasonable fitness level is necessary. Families are encouraged to apply and are welcome!

VISAS

Visitors to Uganda must obtain a visa on arrival to Uganda or from one of the Ugandan diplomatic missions, unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months. Uganda began issuing electronic visas (e-Visa) on 1 July 2016. Passengers who have been issued an e-visa must travel with a printed e-visa confirmation. Visa on arrival: Electronic visas replaced the visa on arrival facility. Apply for Uganda Tourist Visa Here.
