ZIMBABWE: Community Volunteer Work

Community Volunteer Work Zimbabwe
Community Volunteer Work Zimbabwe

Go Volunteer Africa’s primary objective is to facilitate the social development process in Zimbabwe communities through community volunteer work. Our Zimbabwe community volunteer work encompasses several sectors of sustainable social development, from education, medical projects and livelihood support.

Zimbabwe has a population of around 12 million people and approximately 65% live in poverty and the average life expectancy is only 51 years – both are quite a shocking stats. Go Volunteer Africa offers short and long term community development programs where you can work on the ground and help people in need.

You might choose to help educational efforts and teach in community centers or at schools working with children from poor backgrounds. This can be really rewarding where you will get to help students learn, seeing them improve their English and literature will be a magical experience.

If you’re interested in community volunteer work in Zimbabwe or planning to go for safari or just visit Zimbabwe; you’re in the right place. With Go Volunteer Africa, you will find fantastic meaningful volunteer opportunities in Zimbabwe and affordable wildlife safaris.

PROJECT LOCATION:

Our Zimbabwe volunteer trip starts and ends in Harare the capital and largest city of Zimbabwe. You will be based in Harare. Harare, formerly Salisbury, lying in the northeastern part of the country.

On the edge of landscaped Harare Gardens, the National Gallery of Zimbabwe has a large collection of African contemporary art and traditional pieces like baskets, textiles, jewelry and musical instruments. The unusual granite formation Epworth Balancing Rocks is southeast of the city. Wildlife such as zebras and giraffes roam Mukuvisi Woodlands, which has bike paths and a bird park.

The city is modern and well-planned, with multistoried buildings and tree-lined avenues. It is the site of Anglican and Roman Catholic cathedrals, a Dutch Reformed church, the Queen Victoria Memorial Library and Museum, the National Archives, the University of Zimbabwe (opened 1957), and the Rhodes National Gallery.

ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP:

After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare. A member of staff from our local partner organization in Zimbabwe will meet you on arrival at the airport in Harare and take you to the volunteer guest house or host family which will be your base for volunteering. This airport services numerous international carriers. Zimbabwe has good connections to destinations throughout Europe, the Asia- Pacific region, USA and Africa.

ORIENTATION:

Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. The volunteer guest house will be your base for volunteering while living in Zimbabwe. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site.

PROJECT DETAILS:

Go Volunteer Africa provides safe, affordable and meaningful community volunteer work in Zimbabwe. We offer vast variety of programs, cultural exchange programs, internships, gap year and summer programs. We engage individuals, couples, groups, families, and students to participate in projects dealing with health, community development, child education, disadvantaged youth, Orphans Support, Wildlife Conservation and many more. We aim to improve the living conditions of the locals in Zimbabwe and we need your support for doing so.

These community development projects will not only help the less fortunate but also help you as a volunteer to know another culture and also see how an individual can make an impact within a short period of time. You can join our volunteer programs in Zimbabwe, as an individual, as a group or even choose to volunteer in Zimbabwe with your family.

GROUP VOLUNTEER TRIPS:

Get some friends together or organize a group from your school and embark on this incredible adventure! Discounts are offered on any group of 5+ participants on Zimbabwe volunteering program.

LONGTERM VOLUNTEER WORK:

Please contact us for more information about our long-term volunteering program in Zimbabwe. We will guide you on the best times of the year, what to pack, and what extra health precautions to keep in mind and all logistics.

VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATION:

Volunteers are provided accommodation in a volunteer house or in a homestay accommodation managed by the local coordinating team. Three meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) are provided to the participants from Monday – Sunday. The accommodations are neat and clean. Accommodation is shared amongst volunteers on the ‘same gender sharing’ basis rooms. Wifi internet, warm water is not guaranteed.

The homes are close to useful amenities like banks, ATM’s, currency exchanges, restaurants, cafes and shopping places. All placements are around 10 – 30 minutes from the accommodation. At some point volunteers might be on the move and hence we suggest also bringing a sleeping mat and sleeping bag/pillow for travel and weekends away on adventures. Bathrooms are usually shared. There is a lounge area for relaxing, reading, or watching movies.

AGE REQUIREMENT:

Our program is for anyone eighteen years and above who loves service above self and social experiences with people from all over the world. We also accepts volunteers of 16+ years of age if they are in a group with a guardian or supervisor above 25years. Volunteers under 16 years old are only considered when accompanied by a parent/guardian. There isn’t a maximum age limit, though a reasonable fitness level is necessary. Families are encouraged to apply and are welcome!

VISAS:

Visitors to Zimbabwe must obtain a visa from one of the Zimbabwean diplomatic missions or online unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries or are eligible for visa on arrival. All visitors must hold passports valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date. Foreign citizens may apply for all types of visa (tourism, business, residence and study) online through the eVisa system. Visa fee can be paid online or on arrival. It takes an average of two working days to obtain an e-Visa. However the period may vary due to a number of factors. The e-Visa is valid for three months from the date of issue.

INSURANCE:

You’ll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the program. You won’t be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you’re covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave your home to the day you return.

WEEKENDS AND FREE-TIME:

Over the weekends or evenings, participants are free to eat out and explore the different delights that Zimbabwe has to offer. We arrange city day tours and long-weekend safaris. No matter what your interests, there is always something for everyone to enjoy!
