PROJECTS LOCATION:

Maun is a town on the Thamalakane River in northern Botswana. Maun is the “tourism capital” of Botswana. It’s the jumping-off point for the vast inland Okavango Delta, which becomes a lush wildlife habitat during the seasonal floods. In the delta, safari camps dot the Moremi Game Reserve, which is home to hippos, lions and rhinos. In the town, the Nhabe Museum features local art, plus history and culture exhibits about the surrounding Ngamiland region.

AIRPORTS FOR ARRIVAL:

After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at Maun International Airport in Maun City. A member of staff from our local partner organization from Maun will meet you on arrival at Airport and take you to the volunteer guest house or host family which will be your base for volunteering. This airport services numerous international carriers. Botswana has good connections to destinations throughout Europe, the Asia- Pacific region, USA and Africa.

ORIENTATION:

On the second day, our Coordinator will give an orientation about the project you will be working on. You will be using your talents and skills to promote the sustainability of threatened and endangered species and their habitats in Botswana through education, applied conservation research and effective management while learning about the culture and customs of the local Batswana people. You will surely be assisting with on-going programs in need of a helping hand.

PROJECT DETAILS:

This volunteer travel Program in Botswana is exclusively designed for those who have limited time to safari and volunteer in Botswana. This is a combination of volunteer work and long weekend safari to Moremi Game Reserve, and a very flexible volunteer program suitable for any type of volunteer traveler, from solo, groups, family and business-focused traveler who would like to make some positive contribution to the life of people.

Botswana community volunteering safaris offer an amazing experience and volunteers will have to teach, arrange recreational activities, support childcare projects, get involved in women empowerment programs, wildlife conservation, getting involved in renovations/building programs, teaching basic computer skills to children & youth and or get involved with our healthcare services program for the nursing/dental/medical professionals.

Volunteers are placed in secure and breathtaking locations for the duration of their Botswana volunteer safari trip. Bring your enthusiasm, team spirit and flexibility to work where needed while volunteering and living at the heart of a community. Go Volunteer Africa welcomes volunteers from all walks of life to be a part of this incredible special travel and volunteering journey in Botswana where one can work with children in local schools and support homes and get involved in various community outreach development programs.

GROUP VOLUNTEER TRIPS:

Get some friends together or organize a group from your school and embark on this incredible adventure! Discounts are offered on any group of 5+ participants on Botswana wildlife conservation volunteering project.

LONGTERM VOLUNTEER WORK:

Please contact us for more information about our long-term volunteer work in Botswana. We will guide you on the best times of the year, what to pack, and what extra health precautions to keep in mind and all logistics.

RESEARCH WORK AND SURVEYS:

Contribute to a greater understanding of this wilderness area by conducting mammal and bird surveys, learning about the migration of different species at different times of the year, and building knowledge about resident individuals and herds. Monitor camera traps and document nocturnal activities. All of this data feeds into the broader management planning of the area and contributes to the ultimate goal of a larger conservation area.

VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATION:

For volunteers working in Maun, accommodation will be provided in safari tents or volunteer dorms/hostel which are both basic but comfortable. At some point volunteers might be on the move throughout the entire game reserve and hence we suggest also bringing a sleeping mat and sleeping bag/pillow for travel and weekends away on adventures.

Bathrooms are usually shared and you have access to a kitchen to prepare your meals. There is a lounge area for relaxing, reading, or watching movies. At the volunteer camp site, you will live in the middle of nature and wildlife, a very memorable experience. At night, lions can be heard roaring accompanied by the patter of herds of animals roaming outside your tent.

AGE REQUIREMENT:

Our program is for anyone eighteen years and above who loves nature, wildlife and social experiences with people from all over the world. We also accepts volunteers of 16+ years of age if they are in a group with a guardian or supervisor above 25years. Volunteers under 16 years old are only considered when accompanied by a parent/guardian. There isn’t a maximum age limit, though a reasonable fitness level is necessary. Families are encouraged to apply and are welcome!
