Uganda Summer Volunteer Camps

Liberia Community Volunteer Program

This year Go Volunteer Africa has organized 3 Uganda summer volunteer camps that will bring together a temporary community of 20-30 international volunteers from different backgrounds to provide services to local community projects.

The volunteers carry out unskilled tasks that would not otherwise be possible. The practical work is only part of the main objective. The work is a tool and method to promote intercultural understanding and friendship between the volunteers and with the local community.

Uganda Summer Volunteer Camps

A UNIQUE UGANDA EXPERIENCE

Taking part in the Uganda summer volunteer camps is an extraordinary experience. For a short time, you become part of a new social unit made up of people from different countries and cultures; living and working together to achieve a practical task in sometimes basic circumstances.

Through this shared experience, strong friendships develop and every day brings new experiences, both social and personal. The Uganda summer volunteer camp is a wonderful learning experience on many levels, particularly for languages.

But also for practical work skills, social and interpersonal skills, geographical and intercultural experience, self-awareness, understanding the realities and hopes of the hosting community, seeing life as it is from a wholly different perspective.

Tolerance of differences, willingness to share, a sense of humor and a constructive approach to solving interpersonal problems are essential qualities for the Uganda summer camp volunteers. Participation in the Uganda summer volunteer camps makes it possible to experience different areas and aspects of countries and cultures not usually accessible to foreigners.

Uganda Summer Volunteer Camps

It is a unique opportunity for people of different nationalities, ages, and abilities, social, cultural and religious backgrounds to live, work, and co-operate together. A temporary democratic international community is established for the period of the project and this is itself a fascinating experience.

UGANDA SUMMER VOLUNTEER CAMPS ACTIVITIES

The work tasks vary widely from construction projects, nature conservation, medical outreach interventions, or social projects involving children, families, the elderly and people with special needs. The practical work is only part of the main objective.

The work is a tool and method to promote intercultural understanding and friendship between the volunteers and with the local community. Participants on the Uganda summer volunteer camps, are not tourists, nor are they development workers.

They can expect to give around 15-25 hours unskilled work a week, and become closely involved with the local community who will provide the expertise. Naturally, volunteers only need to work as hard as they are able.

However, they must remember that many people have contributed a great deal of time and effort to make the project possible. Each camp is managed by the local community but the volunteers are in charge of their own domestic arrangements.

There are usually some cultural activities outside the work program such as visits to local sites of interest, to other projects, homestays with local families, discussions on particular topics, etc. The volunteers themselves sometimes choose the activities.

On most projects, some of the volunteers are locals of the host community. On almost all projects there will be one or more responsible people acting as coordinators and technical leaders for the work.

They live and work with the volunteers and normally are volunteers themselves. These coordinators are chosen and trained by Go Volunteer Africa and her local partners. They depend on the full participation of each volunteer, so it is the responsibility of the whole group to ensure the project’s success.

THE JUNE CLEAN WATER CAMP

There is a great need for clean water supply in rural Mukono District. Volunteers joining this trip will be building one of the new community water points. Depending on the skills of the volunteers who join the team, there may also be opportunities to conduct local community outreach, children’s programs, and health education.

This project is available for less 2 weeks. This project has been selected as being suitable for shorter durations for both the host community and the volunteer. This camp will really allow volunteers to be immersed in the host community.

Volunteers work with locals to make sure these projects get completed and match the needs of the people they’re benefitting. The building work takes place early in the morning and late in the afternoon so you’ll have plenty of time to get involved in the community you are working in.

THE JULY MEDICAL CAMP

This camp will delivers health education, medicines and supplies to needy communities of Mukono District. If you are a doctor, dentist, nurse, physical therapist or other healthcare provider with an interest in serving a community this is the perfect trip for you.

Medical Volunteering Uganda

For pre-health student (pre-med or pre-dental) or aspiring medical professional looking to enhance your skill set and/or gain experience in another community across the globe this is a great trip to join.

THE AUGUST HEALTHCARE & CONSTRUCTION CAMP

Whether you are on a gap year, summer vacation, or career break, if you want to get your hands dirty and see physical results from your volunteer work overseas, this trip may be just the thing for you!

Become Volunteers Host

The purpose of this camp is not only to help build infrastructure but to also build lives. This camp is great for everyone aged 18 to 65+! Working with local communities in Uganda, volunteers will work alongside the local builders and carpenters, assisting with all levels of building and construction.

The construction techniques are simple to master and are ideal for sites with limited facilities. The work of the participants on this camp is varied but may include digging foundations, mixing cement, building walls, constructing a roof, plastering, or putting the finishing coat of paint on a completed building.

Construction Volunteer Project Zambia

You do not need previous building experience to take part in this project; although anyone who does have any relevant skills will be very welcome and will be able to take on a more specialized role. All volunteers should, however, be reasonably fit and physically active, and be prepared for working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

We ask volunteers interested in the Uganda summer volunteers to commit at least 14 days (2 weeks) in order to ensure a worthwhile experience. We want every volunteer to feel that their time in Uganda was put to good use and that they had adequate time to make an impact.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older at the time of joining the project (unless if traveling with family). You need to have an open mind and a flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference and should be willing to work outdoors and get their hands dirty.

Participants must be fit and healthy at the time of joining the program and willing to work hard. You don’t need any previous work-related experience, to partake on these projects (except those joining as medical volunteers).

VOLUNTEER WORK SCHEDULE

You will be working from Monday to Friday in a small team of like-minded individuals. The day-to-day work program will vary according to the program of the day. Whatever your contribution, you are sure to find this project incredibly rewarding when you see the progress the project has made.

VOLUNTEER BENEFITS

You can help build even if you have never picked-up a hammer before. You can help out at the medical camp, even if you are not a healthcare specialist. These volunteering opportunities in Uganda lets you get your hands engaged and actually see what a difference you’ve made before you head back home.

But, don’t think it’s all about hard work. The safaris and tours we organize in Uganda also give you the chance to travel around the communities you are working in, explore the country, and get to know the people you are helping.

ARRIVAL, AIRPORT TRANSFERS & LIVING

Your arrival into Uganda will be on a Sunday. Your orientation for your volunteer program in Uganda will begin on Monday. You will spend the day learning about life in Uganda and preparing for your upcoming volunteer program.
