Mukono is a great place to stay if you want to explore Uganda’s fascinating capital city or the adventure capital- Jinja.
ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP
After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at Entebbe International Airport (the only international airport in Uganda). Our Coordinator will arrange a pickup for you from the airport in Entebbe at agreed time and they will drive you to the volunteer home outskirts of Kampala.
ORIENTATION
Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Uganda you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing.
PROJECT DETAILS
The Uganda community volunteer work program will give you an experience of a lifetime whilst helping those in real need on one of our community-based projects! As a volunteer in Uganda, you will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the host community.
Community development volunteers are engaged in a number of projects from conservation, teaching, building and sports projects to medical, women support and youth empowerment projects. There are many ways in which community development volunteers could spend their time, as well as their skills, to help out in Uganda.
The timetable you travel and the projects you may be involved with are all geared to your skills and interests, and the community’s needs. We facilitate volunteer placements in Uganda for individual solo travelers and groups, for a minimum of one week. We offer volunteer programs that will either utilize skills you hold already or give opportunity to learn new skills.
Through the Uganda community volunteer work program, we are committed to enabling skill transfer, enabling projects in Uganda to access different skill sets and to helping volunteers realize the value they can add using the skills they hold.
Through the Uganda community volunteer work program, we match your skills and expectations with those of your host project to ensure your placement is a professionally, as well as a personally, rewarding experience. As a volunteer in Uganda, you will get to interact with local communities, live in local areas and get an authentic experience of Africa. You will get cultural immersion activities such as cooking & language classes.
We are driven by the needs of the projects we support. We only offer sustainable volunteering projects that have lasting and positive impact on the local community. Our Uganda community volunteer work program is open to volunteers of all ages and educational or professional backgrounds.
You will have the opportunity to try different roles and projects, dependent on your interests and skills. These volunteer opportunities do not require specialized skills (although these would be an advantage), and we accept volunteers for both short and long-term placements, all the year round.

VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers are provided accommodation in our beautiful volunteer house or in a homestay accommodation managed by the local coordinating team. Three meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) are provided to the participants from Monday – Sunday. The accommodations are neat and clean. Accommodation is shared amongst volunteers on the ‘same gender sharing’ basis rooms. Wifi internet, warm water is not guaranteed.
The accommodations are close to useful amenities like banks, ATM’s, currency exchanges, restaurants, cafes and shopping places. All placements are around 5 – 30 minutes from the accommodation. At some point volunteers might be on the move and hence we suggest also bringing a sleeping mat and sleeping bag/pillow for travel and weekends away on adventures. Bathrooms are usually shared. There is a lounge area for relaxing, reading, or watching movies.
AGE REQUIREMENT
Our program is for anyone eighteen years and above who loves service above self and social experiences with people from all over the world. We also accepts volunteers of 16+ years of age if they are in a group with a guardian or supervisor above 25years. Volunteers under 16 years old are only considered when accompanied by a parent/guardian. There isn’t a maximum age limit, though a reasonable fitness level is necessary. Families are encouraged to apply and are welcome!
VISAS
Visitors to Uganda must obtain a visa on arrival to Uganda or from one of the Ugandan diplomatic missions, unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months. Uganda began issuing electronic visas (e-Visa) on 1 July 2016. Passengers who have been issued an e-visa must travel with a printed e-visa confirmation. Visa on arrival: Electronic visas replaced the visa on arrival facility. Apply for Uganda Tourist Visa Here.
WEEKENDS AND FREE-TIME
Over the weekends or evenings, participants are free to eat out and explore the different delights that Uganda has to offer. We arrange city day tours and long-weekend safaris. No matter what your interests, there is always something for everyone to enjoy!
