UGANDA: Arts Volunteer Program

Uganda Arts Volunteer Program
Uganda Arts Volunteer Program

If you want to teach arts, music or dance abroad, Go Volunteer Africa has a volunteering opportunity in Uganda. Volunteer with our Uganda Arts volunteer program as an instructor and get a chance not only to make a positive impact in a needy community, gain leadership experience and build new skills, but also to share your knowledge and provide valuable skills to youth and children.

Go Volunteer Africa offers opportunities to volunteer with Arts, Dance and Music projects in Uganda from one week to three months or more. The Uganda arts volunteer program and projects are set up in various communities across Uganda, run by our development partners.

Volunteers in our program experience traditional Ugandan life and participate in daily roles of the project such teaching children various basic instruments from piano, cello and guitar etc. The children are aged between 8 and 19. It is therefore important that volunteers be enthusiastic about music and able to inspire the children to develop both theoretical and practical musical, arts and dance knowledge and skills.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Contribute your musical expertise to children in a community with great needs
  • Build relationships with local Ugandans and other volunteers
  • Explore one of the most beautiful countries on the planet with our volunteer travel support
  • Immerse yourself in the diverse culture of one of Africa’s most interesting and thrilling countries

Volunteering in Uganda with Go Volunteer Africa’s arts and music project will not only allow you to positively influence lives, but you can also learn about a variety of musical styles and genres, as well as about the deep and fascinating histories that this country has with music.

It is important for potential volunteers to understand that the culture in Uganda is quite different from what you are accustomed to. Volunteers should bring with them an easy-going, open-minded and relaxed attitude. Locals are curious, very friendly and social people.

PROJECT DETAILS:

As an arts, dance and music volunteer in Uganda you can choose from a creative arts, music and dance project where you can apply your creative eye and enthusiasm while volunteering and living at the heart of a community.  When you choose to volunteer in Uganda with Go Volunteer Africa, you will be involved dancing, painting, drawing or music classes for children and adults.

Your creativity will inspire children and youth who want to develop their talents. On our Uganda arts, dance and music volunteer project you can teach Arts and painting to the children, or rehearse with the girls of a ballet class. You could start teaching something as simple as the piano, or how to beat drums. Go Volunteer Africa’s Arts and Music projects are far more than just entertainment; it can be a powerful force for community building, nurturing human creativity, and social empowerment for future growth and employment opportunities.

All our volunteer projects in Uganda allow you to discover the wonders of Uganda, while doing meaningful and rewarding community work. This is a great opportunity to explore life in rural Uganda, live and work amongst the locals and realize one person can make a difference.

While Go Volunteer Africa and its partner will endeavor to maintain a daily routine, volunteers should understand that things move slowly in Africa. Relax and enjoy the slow pace. Remember that life in Africa is not as organized and predictable as life in developed countries.

Although volunteer work can be very busy and active, at other times work is determined by many number of factors including weather, availability of resources, whether a relevant contact has turned up, cultural activities etc. Volunteer in Uganda with Africa’s leading and largest volunteer travel organization – Go Volunteer Africa.

VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATION:

Volunteers are provided accommodation in a volunteer house or in a homestay accommodation managed by the local coordinating team. Three meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) are provided to the participants from Monday – Friday. The accommodations are neat and clean. Accommodation is shared amongst volunteers on the ‘same gender sharing’ basis rooms. Wifi internet, warm water is not guaranteed.

The homes are close to useful amenities like banks, ATM’s, currency exchanges, restaurants, cafes and shopping places. All placements are around 10 – 30 minutes from the accommodation. There is a lounge area for relaxing, reading, or watching movies.

AGE REQUIREMENT:

Our program is for anyone eighteen years and above who loves children, youth, women and social experiences with people from all over the world. We also accepts volunteers of 16+ years of age if they are in a group with a guardian or supervisor above 25years. Volunteers under 16 years old are only considered when accompanied by a parent/guardian. There isn’t a maximum age limit, though a reasonable fitness level is necessary. Families are encouraged to apply and are welcome!

VISAS:

Visitors to Uganda must obtain a visa on arrival to Uganda or from one of the Ugandan diplomatic missions, unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months. Uganda began issuing electronic visas (e-Visa) on 1 July 2016. Passengers who have been issued an e-visa must travel with a printed e-visa confirmation

Electronic visas are expected to replace the visa on arrival facility. As a temporary measure, passengers who have not applied for an e-visa on line, will still be able to apply for their e-visa on arrival in Uganda. However, facilities will be very limited and passengers may experience delays. The 90-day East African Tourist Visa is also available on arrival, which is valid for Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda if first used in the country that issued the visa.

INSURANCE:

You’ll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the program. You won’t be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you’re covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave your home to the day you return.

WEEKENDS AND FREE-TIME:

Over the weekends or evenings, participants are free to eat out and explore the different delights that Uganda has to offer. We arrange city day tours and long-weekend safaris. No matter what your interests, there is always something for everyone to enjoy!
