Somaliland, officially the Republic of Somaliland, is a self-declared state internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia. Somaliland lies in northwestern Somalia, on the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden.
It is bordered by the remainder of Somalia (per international recognition) to the east, Djibouti to the northwest, and Ethiopia to the south and west. The capital and the largest city is Hargeisa, with the population of around 1,500,000 residents.
In 1960, 9 days after the independence, Somaliland was annexed to the big Somalia until 18 May 1991. This date is very important for Somaliland people, even more important than the independence from the British.
The most visited site in Somaliland is the caves of Laas Geel, but it is also possible to visit the city of Hargesa, Berbera, Sheek and Erigavo the highest point of Somaliland as well as Somalia.
