TANZANIA: Orphanage Volunteer Work

Tanzania Orphanage Volunteer Work
Tanzania Orphanage Volunteer Work

Go Volunteer Africa offers an opportunity to volunteer at orphanage and childcare projects in Tanzania. Our Tanzania Orphanage Volunteer Work program accepts people from all around the world to participate on life changing project in Tanzania.

Your main role as a volunteer participating in our project is to bring some joy, hope to the lives of orphans and vulnerable children under this program and help local staff with the daily routines.

Volunteers at our orphanage and childcare projects in Tanzania are free to tutor the children, organize arts and crafts or sports activities, and help out with basic chores such as feeding the kids, and folding laundry. At the orphanage and childcare centers, volunteers help with the daily care of the kids, playing with them, showing them attention, even to teach a bit English to the older children.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Help with breakfast and prepare the children for school
  • Assist with lessons and teach English 3-4 hours a day in the local school
  • Lead sports, art, games, picture books, music activities
  • Organize fun activities when the children return from school
  • Prepare food for dinner

This volunteer project can be quite emotional when you see poverty close you but you will be able to help and you will be given full training and support when participating. You won’t be alone either, there will be volunteers from all over the world helping too.

Any volunteer interested in the childcare and orphanage volunteer project in Tanzania will be required to provide a CRB check to participate.  This is a life-changing volunteering experience to anyone who would like to spend their summer, career break, gap year or volunteer holiday working at an childcare and orphanage in Tanzania.

PROJECT LOCATION:

Arusha is a city in north eastern Tanzania and the capital of the Arusha Region, located at the base of volcanic Mt. Meru. It’s a gateway to safari destinations and to Africa’s highest peak, 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro, lying some 100 kilometers northeast. To the west lies Serengeti National Park, home to wildlife including lions, rhinoceros, giraffes and leopards.

ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP:

After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha City. A member of staff from our local partner organization from Arusha will meet you on arrival at Airport. This airport services numerous international carriers. Tanzania has good connections to destinations throughout Europe, the Asia- Pacific region, USA and Africa.

ORIENTATION:

Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site. Following your arrival in Tanzania you will be given a presentation by the co-coordinating project team to prepare you for the work you will be doing.

PROJECT DETAILS:

Childcare and Orphanage volunteer project in Tanzania provides to people of all backgrounds and ages an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.  As a orphanage volunteer you will be caring for children and providing a safe and loving atmosphere for them to play and live in. Volunteers in Tanzania might be helping local orphanage staff with cooking, preparing food, dressing children, feeding them and keeping them busy.

Go Volunteer Africa is offering this project in Arusha in Tanzana and the participants will work with children either at the orphanage home, children’s centre or school for the disadvantaged children supported by Go Volunteer Africa. Orphanage volunteering is one of the most challenging opportunity, yet one of the most rewarding experiences that you’ll ever have.

Make the most of this opportunity by bringing about a positive change in the lives of the disadvantaged children; by providing them the love, care, and affection that they deserve. The opportunity is available throughout the year and you can choose your volunteering duration depending on your convenience. The minimum duration to volunteer is 4 weeks as we try to be ethical and avoid “orphanage tourists”.

You will need to have a positive attitude and be able to create a fun environment for the children to live in. You could be just generally assisting with daily tasks, or even coming up with ideas like English lessons, music or leading sports activities. You will be required to be fun, very patience and be able to be creative planning a weekly schedule for the children keeping them busy and occupied.

This is the perfect volunteer program in Tanzania, for anyone who loves children and  make a positive impact in their lives. Most of the kids  at this orphanage and children’s centre are in the age group of 3 – 16 years, and they belong to a very compromised background, such that they often don’t get the basic requirements as well. This project will not only give you an opportunity of working with children, but it’ll also get you closer to the Tanzanian culture and lifestyle. You’ll be interacting with the local staff at the centers, and look deeper into the problems that persist in the developing society.

Some of the children and locals might not speak English but you will be able to help them and you might even pick up some of the local language- Swahili. There will also be lots of free time to relax and enjoy some of the culture and cuisine, Tanzania is full of things to do and places to visit.
