Medical Volunteer Projects

If you are interested in medical volunteer projects in Africa, you are in the right place! Medical volunteer projects arranged by Go Volunteer Africa offer an incredible opportunity to give back to communities in need, while gaining valuable experiences for your future career.

If you are in the process of becoming a medical professional, or are already trained, we will be happy to welcome you in Africa. When you volunteer in Africa at one of Go Volunteer Africa’s medical volunteer projects, you will work in local hospitals and health centres to learn about the current healthcare system in Africa.

Go Volunteer Africa’s medical volunteer projects offer a fantastic opportunity to gain first-hand experience and insight into the health care systems of many African countries. Learn from local staff and get involved in supporting them.

This medical volunteer project aims to provide pre-medical/pre-nursing and medical/nursing students with a unique medical experience in Africa. With our hosts, we place medical volunteers at free medical camps, local clinics and hospitals. The medical volunteer projects are not only for general medicine and nursing students, but also for all those with health-related interests.

Medical volunteer projects in Africa vary dependent on education, skills, experience and qualifications and on the community’s current needs. Medical Volunteers are not permitted to perform major exams or surgeries and they will mostly shadow local doctors.

As a medical volunteer in Africa, you could be placed in a large hospital or small rural health center. Most of the hospitals (regardless of size) have many departments: Emergency, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, and Internal Medicine etc. so a volunteer may be placed in any department, but skills/qualifications will also be considered.

Medical Volunteers may also take patients’ vitals: blood pressure, temperature, height and weight, and carry out health center tasks. You may provide treatment for minor injuries or wounds and document patient records. The tasks and activities vary day by day.
