Dentistry and Optometry volunteers are in high demand all across Africa and participants in the program will have a very significant impact on the quality of life for people who would otherwise not be able to afford medical and clinical support. Go Volunteer Africa offers safe and structured dental and optical volunteer placements across Africa.
Depending on the volunteer placement, volunteers on our dentistry and optometry program in Africa may be working with a variety of patients ranging from young children to the elderly. Volunteers may be responsible for dental examinations, teeth cleaning, teaching preventative care and keeping all equipment in ready to use condition. Dental volunteers may also be asked to help in teaching some dental health classes in the communities.
We have a variety of optical volunteer placements across the Africa continent, where you’ll be able to observe and assist. The Optical section serves patients with prescribed frame and lenses. You could work in a hospital, clinic or teaching hospital, in any one of a number of departments. You can work in a variety of medical departments, where you can either assist or shadow the staff members.
You will get to travel to a new destination in the developing world and provide dental and optical care to children and communities who do not have the facilities to get treatment. Dentistry and optometry volunteer program placements are an amazing experience but please note work can be difficult and challenging, living and working conditions might be basic compared to Western standards but don’t let this put you off.
