CHAD: Community Volunteer Work

Community Volunteer Work Chad
Community Volunteer Work Chad

Go Volunteer Africa has introduced the concept of international volunteering to Chad through our community volunteer work opportunities. Go Volunteer Africa is working directly with the Chadian Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and local development partners.

Most of Chad’s population live in abject poverty, life expectancy is under fifty years old, 20% of all children die before their fifth birthday and less than 1% of the population has access to electricity. Although violence against women is prohibited, domestic violence is common in Chad. Female genital mutilation is also prohibited, but the practice is widespread and deeply rooted in tradition; 45% of Chadian women undergo the procedure. Women lack equal opportunities in education and training, making it difficult for them to compete for the relatively few formal-sector jobs.

PROJECT LOCATIONS

Our Chad volunteer trip starts and ends in N’Djamena the capital and largest city of Chad. You will be based in N’Djamena.

N’Djamena: A port on the Chari River, near the confluence with the Logone River, it directly faces the Cameroonian town of Kousséri, to which the city is connected by a bridge. It is also a special statute region, divided into 10 districts or arrondissements. N’Djamena is in the centre of cotton-growing, cattle-raising, and fishing areas and is thus an important market site. It has a refrigerated slaughterhouse and is the headquarters of many financial and light-industrial firms.

ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP

After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flights to arrive at N’Djamena International Airport in N’Djamena city. A member of staff from our local partner organization in Chad will meet you on arrival at Airport in N’Djamena. This airport services numerous international carriers. Chad has good connections to destinations throughout Europe, the Asia- Pacific region, USA and Africa.

ORIENTATION

Orientation and Placement will be done the next day. The volunteer guest house or host family will be your base for volunteering. Generally, your volunteer orientation is an overview of the project’s mission, expectations and introduction to the local community and project site.

VOLUNTEER WORK IN CHAD

Go Volunteer Africa through our Chad Community volunteer work offers a wide range of volunteering opportunities in Chad from teachingchildcareagricultureconservation, culture immersion or healthcare projects. If you are looking for somewhere to volunteer and get immersed in the culture, Chad is an ideal destination.

Our Chad community volunteer work also has a focus on humanitarian aid particularly in the drought ridden areas, education, agriculture, maternity services for women (one in every 14 women die during childbirth) and the inevitable work with orphaned and abandoned children.

Volunteering in Chad is not for the faint hearted but offers a unique volunteer experience and its one the reasons to travel there and make a difference! This country is in extreme need of attention. Volunteer with passion and purpose. Keep optimistic and go out there and get stuck into it!

Chad has been ravaged by war and poverty. Due to these two issues, the country’s population struggles with defaced and damaged public facilities and food crisis. Go Volunteer Africa is focusing on helping to alleviate the suffering and your contribution as a volunteer could be invaluable to the recovery and livelihoods of the people of Chad.

Due to civil conflict within Chad, much of the country’s wildlife was killed and currently efforts are being made to replenish game parks. For volunteers interested in wildlife conservation work, Go Volunteer Africa recruits volunteers to help with the conservation efforts in the country. Volunteers in conservation can work in wildlife reserves such as Zakouma national park and contribute to restoration of a number of species and activities such as tree planting.
