We are glad that you have chosen to volunteer in Burkina Faso with Go Volunteer Africa.
These volunteering placements in Burkina Faso offer you the chance to join a teaching, childcare, sports and/or women’s empowerment project. Bring your enthusiasm, team spirit and flexibility to work where needed while volunteering and living at the heart of a community.
Your day to day involvement will depend upon the main focus of the program at the time of your visit, however, volunteers can typically expect to be involved within a range of activities which could include child care, building classrooms, after school homework clubs, NGO admin work, editing and fundraising activities, family outreach work and health awareness.
Although the work may occasionally be arduous, it will be rewarding and fulfilling, giving you an unforgettable experience and the opportunity to make a real difference! You will have the opportunity to try different roles and projects, dependent on your interests and skills. These volunteer opportunities in Burkina Faso do not require specialized skills (although these would be an advantage).
Volunteers will also visit Bangr Weogo Park in Ouaga. This fantastic wildlife park is situated in the very heart of Ougadougou city. It is one of the most amazing urban parks in the world and has an impressive host of animals and plant life. The park also has a great museum detailing the natural history of the area as well as great restaurants and recreational sports and play areas.
Go Volunteer Africa also runs volunteer travel programs in Banfora and if you are placed here, this one of the most beautiful regions of Burkina Faso. The nearby attractions include Lake Tengrela, which is a great place to spot hippos, especially in the dry season (The hippos in the Lake here are the main draw and it is thought that, due to the animals being of the sacred variety, they will not attack humans.), and the Karfiguela Waterfalls which make for a great hiking or picnic spot.
Over the weekends, volunteers will visit and tour The Ruins of Loropeni, these ruins are thought to be at least 1000 years old, serve as a vivid reminder of just how vast and important the cross-Sahara gold trade once was. The site is a Unesco World Heritage site and was the first to be rewarded with such a status in the country. The stone ruins here make for a fascinating day trip and are still, at present, being excavated with many more secrets expected to be discovered with time.
Volunteers in Burkina Faso will also be taken to the Nazinga Reserve, close the border with Ghana, the Nazinga Game Reserve covers an expanse of around 97,000 hectares. The elephants here steal the show although the birdlife and crocodiles are also popular. The volunteers will also visit the Ziniare Wildlife Park which has hyenas, lions, tigers, elephants and a single giraffe. The volunteers will also do a safari and game drive in Arli National Park and species that call the park their home include lions, antelopes, monkeys and hippos.
Volunteers participating in this special Burkina Faso volunteer travel program, will also get an opportunity of visiting the lively town of Sindou to explore its rugged Sindou Peaks and Sabou for its sacred crocodiles. The crocs are seen as being harmless and remarkably no accidents involving the crocodiles have occurred here for over 70 years. Volunteers will also have a rare opportunity to visit the Tiebele village located right next to Burkina Faso’s border with Ghana. This culture village has a great number of traditional mud huts and other architecture all of which are beautifully decorated.
