Visas and Work Permits: The United Republic of Tanzania, a member of the East African Community, allows citizens of all African countries to obtain a visa on arrival. Citizens of most other countries are urged to obtain a visa prior to entry to Tanzania to avoid any possible inconvenience at point of entry in Tanzania. Volunteers need a Tourist Visa to enter Tanzania; you can get it at the Tanzania airport. Once in the country all volunteers must apply for a “Volunteer Permit”. All participants in the Tanzania program must secure a permit to volunteer. All visitors must hold a passport valid for at least six months with at least one empty page. Check this page http://www.immigration.go.tz/index.php/en/services/visa-information
Insurance: You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the program. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave your home to the day you return.
This Arusha / Ngorongoro/ Serengeti Experience journey begins in Arusha town where volunteer travelers are to arrive a day before the start of the trip (we can accommodate, if need be). Volunteers spend most of their time in Arusha.
Arusha is located at the base of volcanic Mt. Meru. It's a gateway to safari destination Serengeti National Park, home to wildlife including lions, rhinoceros, giraffes and leopards. Annual migrations feature huge herds of wildebeests crossing its plains.
This is where you will be spending the most of your time. The people of this city are some of the friendliest in the world. You will stay with a local family or live at the volunteer house and eat home cooked meals while experiencing local life there every day. You will travel daily through the beautiful neighborhood and share in local customs in many homes all while contributing to meaningful community development projects.
You will be involved in a wide range of projects, depending on your skills and interests. Volunteers will be working alongside a local team to ensure positive results of the project. Volunteers are stationed in walkable distances from accommodation to project worksite.
Our favorite thing at Go Volunteer Africa is being spontaneous and we love all the unplanned surprises we constantly come across during our travels. We provide a very free flowing schedule that also allows free time to spend doing whatever you’d like.
The objective of this unique volunteer travel adventure trip is to help more people gain the life changing, life affirming experiences that volunteering can give while experiencing the best Tanzania can offer. Throughout this entire trip, the goal is to make a positive impact on the local people while getting off the grid and experiencing local culture.
ORIENTATION & VOLUNTEERING DAY 1-13
Day 1: Go Volunteer Africa will arrange a pickup for you, from the airport, hotel or guesthouse, at agreed time. Our experienced Coordinator will give an orientation about Go Volunteer Africa and the project you will be working on. (It’s always better to arrive a day earlier for the best experience and allowing you sometime to rest, if not yet in Arusha.) From here you will visit and tour the project site and be introduced to the staff. During the orientation you can choose from our diverse assortment of health, teaching and socio-economic projects collaborating with local African partner NGOs.
Day 2 - 13: You can use your talents and skills to enhance the lives of less priviledged children, under privileged women and youth while learning about the culture and customs of the local Tanzanian people. You will surely be assisting with on-going programs in need of a helping hand. You can spend the first day helping to paint the classroom blocks, work with teachers, prepare meals for children, plant trees, train dance, musical instruments, and work with clinical officers or participate in the youth empowerment projects.

Day 18-19: Ngorogoro Crater Safari
The Ngorongoro Crater is the best place in Tanzania to see the big five and due to the shape and size of this incredible natural landscape. The Crater is the world’s largest inactive volcano caldera and its beauty is awe-inspiring. A healthy population of black rhino and some of the largest tusker elephants left in Africa today are highlights, as well as the Crater being home to strong populations of lion, leopard and hyena along with good herds of non- migrating wildebeest, buffalo and zebra. Other game in the Crater include: serval cat, cheetah, jackal, Grant's and Thompson's gazelle, flamingo and bat eared foxes, along with approximately 400 species of bird.
Once you have finished your game drive in the Crater there are many activities within Ngorongoro Conservation Area including walking, visiting the Maasai and Olduvai Gorge. Tanzania is often referred to as the “Cradle of Mankind” due to the discovery of the earliest known humans at Olduvai Gorge. It is one of the most famous archeological sites in the world and well worth a visit.
