10 Days Mount Kenya Climbing & Volunteer Experience

This superb budget Mount Kenya Climbing -Srrimon – Chogoria Route & Volunteer Experience in Kenya begins from Nairobi with a four days volunteering experience. GVA Holidays will arrange a pickup for you, from the airport, hotel or guesthouse, at agreed time. Our experienced Coordinator will give an orientation about Go Volunteer Africa‘s work in Kenya and the project you will be working on. (It’s always better to arrive a day earlier for the best experience and allowing you sometime to rest, if not yet in Nairobi.)

Day 1-4: Nairobi – Volunteering

You will visit and tour the project site and be introduced to the staff. During the orientation you can choose from our diverse assortment of healthcareArts and MusicSports CoachingOrphanage CareSlum Project, and socio-economic projects. You will use your talents and skills to enhance the lives of orphans, under privileged women and youth while learning about the culture and customs of the local Kenyan people.

You will surely be assisting with on-going programs in need of a helping hand. You can spend the first day helping to paint the classroom blocks, work with teachers, prepare meals for orphans, plant trees, train dance, musical instruments, and work with clinical officers or participate in the youth empowerment projects.

You can choose to stay in one of our accommodation or be dropped back to your hotel or guesthouse.

Day 5: Nairobi – Nanyuki

On the 5th day, we depart Nairobi at 9.30 am for Nanyuki, a journey which takes approximately 3 hours. After lunch walk around this small town or relax in the hotel preparing yourself for the next few days trekking on Mount Kenya. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 6: Nanyuki – Sirimon Park Gate – Old Moses Camp

After breakfast transfer to the park gate where, after checking in, we commence our hiking on Mt. Kenya accompanied by the guide, cook and porters. Our trek goes through the rain forest made up of bamboo, rosewood and other vegetation to Old Moses Camp at 3,300 metres. From the gate to the mountain hut is a 3 hours hike that covers nine kilometres. Dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Old Moses – Shiptons Camp

Our six to seven hours trek takes us through heath and moorland where wildlife abound and comprise of buffalo, rock hyrax and dik dik. We reach Shiptons Camp at an altitude of 4,200 m for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Shiptons Camp

After breakfast you may take an acclimatization hike to Hausberg col (4,700m) before coming back to Shiptons for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Mackinders Camp

An early morning start our final phase of trekking on Mount Kenya heading for Point Lenana (4,985 m) which is reached just before sunrise – this is an ascent of about 800 metres in three and a half-hours. Descend via the Lewis Glacier to the Austrian Hut (4,790 m) and continue to Mackinders Camp (4,200m) for overnight. The descent from Point Lenana to Mackinders takes about two hours.

Day 10: Nairobi

After breakfast at 8.00 am we cross the vertical bog to the roadhead where we are picked up for our transfer to our base hotel for showers and lunch. In the afternoon we are driven to Nairobi where our trekking holiday ends.
