Our Approach to Grant-making:

Go Volunteer Africa works in cooperation with grass-roots organizations in Africa. We support these organizations through small volunteer grants and recruit volunteers to support their work and help increase their capacity.

The majority of funds Go Volunteer Africa supplies are made available through volunteers’ fundraisers, well-wishers donations and grants from foundations. Parts of these funds are sent to our partners during a volunteer’s stay, so s/he can experience directly how money s/he raised benefits the organization.

Go Volunteer Africa funds projects run by our partners, based on grant applications. Most of our funds are raised by volunteers, before or after they join a partner program.

We invest in organizations that demonstrate a commitment to creating value in one or more of our key areas of work – Education, Healthcare, Rural Development, Women Empowerment, Agriculture and Human Rights.  When we make grants, we look for motivated, knowledgeable and passionate organizations who think holistically about social issues and how together we can effectively contribute to the solution. We are committed to having measurable, systemic impact on the areas we invest in, and holding ourselves accountable for these results.

Our grant-making focuses on organizations in Africa, who are registered as development partners to Go Volunteer Africa. We fund projects run by partner organizations only.

This is where the process of registering your organization for access to grants begins. Your organization must be registered to apply for grants. – read more here

Grant Size:

Go Volunteer Africa generally will make grants in the $100 to $4000 range. Average grant size is $1000. While many grants will be for onetime projects, multi-year support will be considered. The organization will consider proposals for both challenge and matching grants, and encourages collaborative efforts with other grant makers.
